Get Started with OpenCLAWS

This page is for systems engineers and technical managers who are planning an OpenCLAWS deployment. Below is an outline of what we believe are important steps to prepare for such an undertaking.

  • You have to start somewhere, but you don't have to do everything all at once. Determine what services OpenCLAWS will handle immediately, and lay out a timeline for migrating the remaining services.
  • Make a list of all of the services you intend to manage with OpenCLAWS, including how services are spread across physical machines as well as host platforms. Also consider subnets or VLANs, firewall policies, and anything else that might present network connectivity challenges.
  • Decide who will do the deployment. We've worked hard to make the installation process as simple as possible, but it's still fairly complicated. You will require technical staff who are (at very least) comfortable with building software from source code, Apache Tomcat, Oracle, Apache webserver, and Linux or UNIX.
  • Subscribe to the openclaws-users mailing list for help with your installation.
  • Deploy OpenCLAWS in a test lab or sandbox environment to allow technical staff to become familiar with managing services with OpenCLAWS.
